What does being a certified builder mean?
Kotahi Construction Ltd is proud to be recognised as a member of the New Zealand Certified Builder Association (NZCB). Being part of the NZCB provides both us and our clients with unparalleled protective measures and assurances throughout the build process.
The NZCB has strict entry criteria which includes the requirement of having a nationally recognised trade qualification, a strong reputation within the construction community and a history of delivering projects to consistently high benchmarks. The NZCB provides us with ongoing training and support, with every member of our team - from apprentice to seasoned builder - fully across the latest building techniques and industry standards.
Our certified builder status with the NZCB means we’re also covered by the Halo Guarantee, which is the most comprehensive 10 year residential building guarantee available in New Zealand. It’s a unique type of building cover from one of the largest insurance underwriters in the world, Lloyd’s of London. The Halo Guarantee is only available on work carried out by certified builders, which means both us and our clients can benefit from increased peace of mind throughout any build project.

We are licensed building Practitioners
To become a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) in New Zealand, builders must be registered with the Building Practitioners Board and hold a current LBP license in the relevant category of building work they intend to undertake. LBPs must have a certain level of practical experience and pass a written assessment to demonstrate their technical knowledge in their area of practice. The LBP scheme was introduced in New Zealand to ensure that builders are competent to carry out certain types of building work and can provide homeowners with added assurance that their work will comply with the Building Code.

While both LBP and NZCB-accredited builders have demonstrated a certain level of competency and professionalism, an LBP license indicates that the builder has been assessed as competent in a particular area of building work and is authorised to carry out that work. In contrast, an NZCB accreditation indicates that the builder has met a broader range of competency and professionalism standards across all areas of building work. Both types of builders can carry out building work, but engaging a certified builder may provide greater assurance of quality and professionalism.
